Shared data access and permissions
You have full control over access to all the data you upload to RootScout. By default, it is only available to you, but you can share your data with others. This can be handy if you want to give colleagues the opportunity to collaborate on editing details about your archaeological finds, or simply to share information about them.
The owner can grant the following access rights:
- viewer
- editor (can make changes and download).
Only the owner can delete data, transfer ownership, share data with others, change or revoke access rights.
You can share your data with:
- users
- groups (in this case, all members of the group will have access to this data with the same access rights).
You can share:
- folder
- dataset
- object (including its data).
Note that when you share a folder, you automatically grant access to all of its content, including all child folders, objects, and datasets with the same access rights. Yet you can change the access rights to the particular child folders, objects and datasets if you want.
How can I do it?
- From the Drive, Map or 3D Viewer section right-click on the folder, dataset or object and then select “Share” item in the context menu.
FYI: On Drive the context menu is also available via the left side navigation panel.
- Enter the user's email address or group name and select the matching record from the drop-down list. Note you can only share data with the authorized RootScout users and groups.
- Set permission (view or edit) and click "Add".
- Newly added groups and users will immediately appear on the list. If you need to change permissions or revoke them, open this window again.
- All users who have been given access to the data will receive an email notification. You can also copy the direct link and send it to them for quick access.
In the future releases we plan to add the public access option as well which will mean that any authorized RootScout user will be able to view the data. This will not give them permission to edit, download, copy or delete data and will be at the sole discretion of the owner.
