Maps georeferencing
You can georeference the raster maps (add longitude/latitude meta-data to pixel locations on a map image to 'place' the image in its appropriate real world location) you have uploaded or even shared ones if owners have given you editor permission.
All maps with missing georeference info will have a corresponding visual alert:
From the Map or Drive section right-click on the map and select “Add georeference” in the context menu:
“Georeferencing mode” will have a base map on the left and the raster image on the right. Using the pen tool, alternately add points on the basemap and the uploaded data. We suggest adding between 5 to 12 pairs for best results. Add at least 3 and at most 20 pairs. Once you have 3 point pairs added, you will be able to switch to “Preview” mode to check the accuracy.
“Preview” mode allows you to edit those points you have already added if they are inaccurate and distort the map or add more if needed. To apply the changes, click “Preview” again.
Once you have it all set, click “Apply”:
This will initiate the georeferencing operation. Next to the file, you will see a notification that the process is running. Please note that it might take a while for the process to complete and meanwhile you will not be able to render the map yet.
